MILLENNIUM DISTINCTION AWARDS ARE GIVEN TO LEADING FINNISH SCIENTISTS AND GROWTH COMPANIES

Millennium Distinction Awards are presented by Technology Academy Finland to Finnish scientists and growth companies for outstanding technological achievements in the field of the most-recent Millennium Technology Prize Winner. The names of the award winners will be announced in October. It will be the fourth time that the awards have been made.

As the 2010 Millennium Technology Prize was won by Professor Michael Grätzel for his invention of dye-sensitized solar cells, this year’s Millennium Distinction Awards will be presented to people and companies working in the solar energy sector.

Millennium Distinction Awards celebrate Finnish innovations and technological achievements. The selection process involves several criteria including pioneering work in research or business activities, distinguished contributions to higher education and significant achievements in the commercialisation of innovations based on new technologies.

This year’s Millennium Distinction Awards event will be held in the City of Vaasa on 17–18 October 2011. The Vaasa region is home to several progressive energy companies and centres of international technological know-how.

The event is organised in cooperation with Technology Centre Merinova/Energy Technology Cluster programme (OSKE).
