A VIEW FROM THE AUDIENCE: REFRESHING!
Aaro Cantell, Chairman of Board of Affecto and Normet Group companies, was one of the business guests following the Millennium Laureates’ press conference on Monday 7 June.
He said he was very taken by the enthusiasm that those scientists shared towards their research work and their bold belief towards technology and its ability to answer many of the challenges mankind faces today and in the future.
“It certainly takes a lot of creativity and skill to solve these problems,” Cantell admits. “And it’s refreshing to hear that creativity in not something that only exists in arts or in communications. Creativity has a lot do to in science as well.”
Image problem
On the other hand Mr. Cantell is aware that the common conception is that technology and engineers like himself are – if you read the newspapers – almost the opposite to green, environmentally friendly and sometimes even to human-friendly environment. It seems engineers have an image problem.
“But they said boldly that we need even more engineers and scientists to reach a more environmentally friendly, sustainable world! Clearly communication between the science world and the media needs to be improved,” Mr. Cantell concluded.
