Almost one hundred candidates for the 2008 Millennium Technology Prize
A total of 99 individuals have been nominated for the 2008 Millennium Technology Prize, with candidates being proposed by 88 organisations in 27 countries. The world’s biggest technology award will be presented by Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, in June 2008.

Nomination period has closed
The nomination period for the Millennium Technology Prize 2008 closed on 1 October 2007. The Millennium Prize Foundation wishes to warmly thank all nominators.
Nominations for candidates for the next Millennium Technology Prize are now being accepted. The world’s largest technology prize is awarded for an innovation which improves the quality of human life and encourages sustainable development. A new element in the 2008 award will be publicity for a selection of the technological innovations that are improving quality of life and have been nominated for the prize. Both the names of the Finalists and their inventions will be announced before the Winner is declared.
Two Finnish growth companies and two university professors will receive this year’s Millennium Distinction Awards from the Millennium Technology Prize Foundation. Heikki and Ulla Mustonen of Tepcomp Oy, Harry Asonen of Corelase Oy, Professor Liisa Halonen of Helsinki University of Technology and Professor Markus Pessa of Tampere Univeristy of Technology have all been recognised for their pioneering work in optoelectronics.
The Board of the Millennium Technology Foundation has appointed five new members to the eight-person International Selection Committee for the one million euro Millennium Technology Prize. Every second year, the prize is awarded to a technological innovation that has the potential for a positive impact on quality of life while also supporting sustainable development.

Millennium Technology Prize is awarded every second year, next time in June 2008. The nomination period for new candidates starts April 16, 2007 and closes October 1, 2007. NOTE!
